Camber Compensation & Anti-Roll Suspension
Camber Compensation & Anti-Roll is an innovative update of the double wishbone suspension system that cleverly avoids the major camber (and footprint) compromises normally found in such systems to provide a number of significant advantages including greater grip. At the heart of the system is a straightforward linkage assembly that constantly maintains the best possible contact between tyre and road during all grip-critical modes of operation (accelerating/braking and/or cornering).
This contrasts sharply with a conventional double-wishbone system where the geometry will at best provide optimum contact in only one such mode – i.e. in cornering or in accelerating/braking – but never in both.
Other benefits of CC&AR include reduced roll, much improved composure/predictability, a higher roll centre (without incurring jacking force issues) and the ability to retain a supple ride, both for road and track. More detailed information can be found on the ‘How It Works’ page.
Following talks with the inventor of the patented CC&AR suspension system (ex-Ford Motor Company engineer, Peter Walker) XCS Designs Ltd are pleased to announce that they are now the new owners of CC&AR, its Intellectual Property (IP) and all associated manufacturing rights.
MD Harvey Rice – “My fellow director, Peter Holm, and I often talk about the first time we drove a CC&AR-equipped car”, said Harvey Rice, XCS Designs Ltd’s Engineering Director. “The first thing we noticed was the system’s characteristically roll-free and compliant ride – but as the miles went by, it was the amount of grip and predictability we had on tap that totally blew us away. The system’s secret is its ability to uniquely keep the tyres in flat contact with the road so that all loads are distributed uniformly across the entire footprint which can then work to maximum effect. It’s undoubtedly a remarkable invention and we’re delighted to have been able to secure its IP and to welcome the system to its new home at XCS Designs”.
The CC&AR system is used on some versions of the XCS 427 but there are significant differences. A bespoke embodiment of the system, which includes purpose-designed billet aluminium suspension uprights, is used at both the front & rear of the top-of-the-range round tube version.
